Central Executive Committee meeting held at National Secretariat Islamabad on 20 April 2015

The National Humanitarian Network has urged the federal and provincial governments to allocate at least 2% of the budget for disaster risk reduction in the 2015-16 budgets. The Central Executive Council of NHN which met here also resolved to make Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and humanitarian work an integral part of its development and advocacy strategy.

The CEC also noted that the flood season is approaching fast; therefore, disaster management must be enhanced in the light of National Disaster Management Act 2010. The best way forward would be to hold a meeting of the National Disaster Management Commission (NDMC) which is the most representative and powerful body. It is headed by Prime Minister, and all the chief ministers, governors, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and the Senate are its members.

The NHN b a coalition of humanitarian NGOs working in all the provinces also resolved to take stock of its preparation for the forthcoming flood season. NHN also urged the provincial governments could to constitute the District Disaster Management Authorities and make them effective by appointing full time staff and providing them financial and other resources.

The CEC also decided to establish NHN chapter in Gilgat and Baltistan. On the occasions NHN website was also launched.
